Check out this LA event tonight! B. wood is a fabulous designer and I’m sad that I’m missing out!

Today I realized that I had every reason to shut down my efforts at putting something together to walk into work. My hair looked crazy, I had no time to really plan ahead, and pretty much all the good stuff was either at the dry cleaners or in my laundry bin.

Sometimes, we just have to make something work! A bad day doesn’t mean it has to be a bad looking day. Consider these options.

1. Bad hair day? Find some great various solid or printed hair accessories. Search Internet photos for ideas and tutorials. Have fun with this!

2. No eye makeup? Smudgy leftover eye makeup? Where are those super dark Jackie O sunglasses? Find them and rock them until you can throw on a little mascara if that makes you feel better.

3. Nothing to wear? Get creative! I wore my dance leggings with a basic top.i sort of played into the shiny fabric and it inspired me to rock my leopard print pony hair Louboutins.

4. Take a shower, take a deep breath, and do what makes you FEEL happy. It can carry you through the day. Remember, choose to have a great day.

White is the complete absence of a hue. It conveys innocence, purity, and cleanliness. When worn correctly, it looks bohemian, fresh, and sometimes outright angelic! So why is it such a difficult color to wear? And how do we wear it?

Unlike the all favorite ever so “slimming” black, white can be visually widening and difficult to wear from head to toe.

1. Break up an all white ensemble in the collar or midsection with any colored belt or scarf. This will help define the body’s major proportions and emphasize certain areas.

2. For a sharper more edgy look, choose black shoes, and for a softer more earthy and approachable look, go with any neutral that works with your skin tone.

3. Fun accessories that work with all white looks include feathers, braided hair or headbands, loose wavy curls, and anything wood.

4. I recommend softer more makeup with this look. Remember we want to look clean! The more makeup one wears the more we stand a chance of an accidental smudge during the day!

5. It doesn’t have to be tight. Other options include white linen pants, shorts, white lace dresses, and silk white tops.

I use the phrase “Sweet in Three Pieces” refers to any ensemble that is sweet, delicate, and often referred to as stereotypically feminine. Sweet ensembles make a person look nice, approachable, and pleasant.

The three pieces refer to the quick and easy way to create this look without too many layers or accessories. One dress, a pair of shoes, and a handbag is all it takes! Everything is is optional.

Sweet in Three Pieces is perfect for travel, long family functions, or events at church or brunches.

1. Choose one sweet piece. This outfit is built around the dress (or top and skirt/pants). Sweet prints are florals, small stripes, and often found in pinks, purples, cream, and other pastels.

2. Find accessories that compliment one another. Remember, the more you distract one from the statement piece (the sweet piece), the less sweet you look. This is because other people will have to work harder to process your busy look and the more they process it the less likely they may be to just take it in its simplest form.

3. If you like makeup, choose a sweet face. Think dewy skin, a well moisturized complexion, blush on the cheeks and a rosy lip. Heavy eyeshadow really isn’t necessary but if one chooses they may want to keep it someone light to medium.

Today turned out to be an LA adventure. It began with a cancelled beach photo shoot (thank you overcast clouds) and ended with my two lovely employees and I covering LA before sunset.

20120510-214614.jpg

First we visited the world of leggings on Robertson blvd. If you haven’t had time visit their website! I love leggings and this place has pretty much every style and print one can imagine.

20120510-214743.jpg

These were my favorite! I’m mad I didn’t buy them but will definitely be back.

After that we did some research at American Apparel. The store on Robertson blvd is massive and carries a lot of product. So much color! Heaven! I wanted everything.

LOL! Only in LA do you see an Ed Hardy covered Smart Car.

20120510-215136.jpg

We decided to take the new Expo Line train to downtown LA. It stops right outside the ByBy Style Studio and takes you downtown in 20 minutes!

Cute boot photo of the three of us. And no we did not plan to wear them.

Sushi was delicious downtown! I am proud that I made the best out of my cancelled shoot. Just thought I’d share some Cali love with you all.

Nude shoes are any color tone that is close to your natural skin tone. Everyone has a different version of their perfect nude shoe, but they are a wonderful wardrobe staple because of their year round versatility.

So what do you wear them with? And when do you wear them?

1. Colorful or busy print ensembles that you want to emphasize. The nude shoe will keep they eye focused above your feet.

2. The great thing about nude shoes is they are appropriate pretty much everywhere unless a specific color is required.

3. Wear them anytime you want to elongate those stems! Nude shoes will make your legs appear like a longer extension of your body than they really are. This is why it’s important to choose a color tone that is close to your skin tone.

4. Nude shoes are great with skirts, shorts, and dresses, however they are great with pants as well!

5. Finding your nude may take some time, so it you must settle, try to find something close and not way off. Otherwise the power of the nude shoe will not work nearly as well.

I received so many questions this past week about where I receive my inspiration for my daily I decided to post the exact image that popped in my mind when I assembled this primary color ensemble together.

I receive my inspiration from a few major sources:

1. Art History: having a photographic memory, this subject always held my interest because it allowed me to see the image and see the millions of possibilities instantly. Try it next time you visit a museum or watch the history channel.

2. The color wheel: that little wheel served as a guide for my color pairings when I wasn’t so sure in my art classes as a child. Now I know it like I know myself, and I just love the millions of possibilities it offers.

3. Nature: chocolate brown and sky blue don’t just work together for a random reason, they work together because of the beautiful way they harmonize on our planet. So many flowers, landscapes, and sunsets inspire me in my daily wardrobe styling.

4. Architecture & Interiors: another love of mine and way to incorporate culture and flavor into a look. Whenever I travel, I return home so inspired.

I hope these answer your questions! I really don’t have a formula. I just choose what makes me feel happy. What makes you feel happy? Stick with that, and you’re off to a great start.

Before I write anything else, let me just say how happy I am that today will be 82 degrees in LA! We are finally getting some warm weather and that means we can have some fun with shorter hemlines, strapless tops, and brightly saturated colors.

Shorts are awesome. Depending on their length they can be appropriate enough for work, great for a night out dancing, or just what you need to cover up your bikini and enjoy lunch by the beach.

Here are some tips on how to rock those dangerously short lengths in ByBy style.

1. Choose a pair YOU feel comfortable wearing. Let me say this again. Choose a pair that YOU feel comfortable wearing. It doesn’t matter how many stores carry the same extreme cut offs, if you don’t feel comfortable, it’s going to affect your confidence level and you won’t pull off the outfit.

2. Curvier girls remember choose some that stretch. Shorts that stretch wont cut off your thighs at the fleshy part which feels uncomfortable and looks unsightly. If you aren’t sure, try them on or check the label to make sure they have at least 2% spandex in the blend.

3. Are your shorts really short? Remember there are places where this is appropriate, but remember that you will most likely receive a lot of attention. Stares, comments, whistles, etc. Your long beautiful legs communicate a lot to people! So if this makes you uncomfortable, don’t wear them. I would be lying to you if I said it wouldn’t happen.

4. Choose an appropriate time and place. Appropriate destinations for short shorts are outdoor concerts, days at the beach, day parties, and fun evening events.

5. Don’t forget balance! If you have practically one half of your lower body showing, balance your upper body with thicker strapped sleeves or long sleeves. Crop tops work depending on the length of the shorts.

If you have questions about nailing this, send me photos! I’m here to help!

Horizontal stripes. We are taught to avoid this pattern because it widens us. What actually widens us is the thickness of the stripes not the stripes themselves.

Stripes are awesome! They can be incorporated into several different looks wether it be nautical, pin up, or French chic. Pretty much every one of these tips is the opposite, but so is the visual part or our brain! It’s upside down.

1. Thicker stripes make you look thicker. Look for some that 1/4″ wide or less.

2. Choose a material that works with your body type. For those with curves, choose something with more stretch. For those more athletic choose a structured material like a heavy blended cotton.

3. Take a picture! Sometime the human eye can tease us, especially when we are looking at patterns. Try on the item and snap a few photos to see how it really looks.

4. Be safe and pair the stripes with a basic top or bottom! Allow them to be the only busy aspect of your ensemble.

5. Shop smart. Stripes are everywhere! Don’t spend a lot of money when you are trying something out for the first time.

It’s finally Friday! You have your nails done, hair appointment set, but no concrete plans. How do you wear an outfit to work that doesn’t make it obvious that you plan on having a wild night out but allows you to keep going with your day just in case you don’t have time to drive back home and change?

1. Wear a pair of stylish flats. No one has to know that you are saving your feet for later!

2. Layer up. Should you end up at cocktails, you don’t want your only top to be too binding when everyone else is dressed in their nightwear, but should you end up at a nice dinner you don’t want to look like you just walked in from a music video.

3. Go easy on the makeup. It’s easier to give your clean face a quick wash in the restroom after work and start fresh then wipe off a face filled with oil and dirt buildup from the day. Not only will you feel fresher, but you will LOOK fresh faced!

4. Carry a versatile handbag that houses a clutch, and use the clutch as your accessories case. Just in case you need to take the clutch alone, you aren’t stuck carrying a big bag when you end up dancing.

5. Be comfortable & chic. A comfortable ensemble will carry you through out the day so you aren’t too physically drained to meet up for happy hour.

6. Just because you came from work is not an excuse to ever drink and drive! Remember to let loose responsibly and have a great time. You deserve it.
